Judges’ Comments This is the only title in the entire competition to set text in a colour. The typefaces are period, but set in a contemporary way that makes them seem new and fresh, just as the design of the book itself causes us to reappraise the modernist houses in a contemporary setting. The jacket hides a wonderfully bold piece of stacked typography on the cover, deeply embossed into the linen case. It not only says ‘modernism’ but also ‘70s’, ‘design’ and ‘architecture’. Did the publisher lose their nerve by electing to conceal such a standout piece of typography? It delighted everyone who discovered it. |
