Judges’ comments A grand tour of the South Island. The cover evokes nostalgia for a bygone era and memories of golden days with a contemporary twist – the horse is replaced by a Subaru station wagon. It’s reminiscent of a Bill Sutton landscape painting, slightly derivative. The dustjacket reveals a foiled kea debossed on the hardcover. There’s a handsome full-colour illustration of a South Island map for the endpaper.
