Title: Wild Kinship: Conversations with Conscious Entrepreneurs
Publisher: Beatnik Publishing
Format: 240 x 190mm, 240pp, hardcover. The production of this book has been offset and is Climate Neutral. Printed using plant-based inks on Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®)–certified paper and other controlled material in a BSCI and SEDEX certified workplace.
99.9% Biodegradable which means it is a wee bit more delicate than most books due to the fact it doesn’t have the plastic lamination protecting the cover.
Typography: Ariata by Malou Verlomme for Monotype, DIN Next by Akira Kobayashi and Sandra Winter.
The main text is printed in Pantone 1675. This warm brown hints at the earthy nature of the content. A simple little nod to what the book is all about without dominating or competing with the fantastic photography.
Ariata was used for the punchy, large quotes to draw in the reader.
DIN Next is used for the main text. It’s a font that can sometimes be too stark and not always easy to use but this time I felt like it worked as a nice contrast with Ariata so it made the cut.
Ariata has a crafted and considered element about it. DIN is more straightforward and gets the job done. Exactly what the entrepreneurial subjects of the book do.
Judges’ comments Twenty-eight Australasian small-business entrepreneurs share conversations for a better planet. The book has environmental sustainability at its core, so therefore utilises FSC paper, vegetable inks, a small print run and carbon credits. Aspirational pull quotes from Margaret Mead and Jane Goodall start and end the book. It has a nurturing/feminine vibe and an understated cover. It uses earthy, warm-brown text instead of black, and a contrasting sans and nostalgic serif typeface. There is a nice sequence and pacing of candid lifestyle photography throughout.
