“Petra’s baking style is Middle Eastern and dark and delicious in flavour and we wanted to give her book a sophisticated, elegant look in keeping with her ‘more is more’ philosophy. Photographer Mel Jenkins and stylist Jo Bridgeford fully embraced this concept, giving the images a rich, sultry look. The text design needed to add to this, but with restraint while at the same time keeping the look fresh and youthful.”
Judges’ comments Dark, rich, and opulent, the design is perfectly fitting for the content, with nice control and pacing throughout. The sultry photography symbolises the richness of Petra Galler’s Middle Eastern recipes, evoking a sumptuousness and heightening of flavour. The colours and typeface choices sit comfortably and also captures the joy of her Jewish heritage, celebrating the rituals of prepping and eating food together. The whole book embodies her father’s mantra, “Everything in moderation, including excess.”
