Judges’ comments: “The design introduces a lovely technique and texture. Beautiful use of colour and red used to prioritise content on both front and back covers.”
“The stark black and red against the white ground give this cover stand out appeal, with the personality of the land, of a hand and stripped back to basics honesty. The illustration is frozen in time and perhaps a simple view but is itself a story waiting to be told. Just two birds in a corner of a pasture away from a bigger flock to be discovered inside.”
“Nostalgic woodcut effect, has an arcane craft feel, reflecting the poem ‘Blades of Grass’.”
