“The design brief for Tina Duncan’s self-published cookbook called for creating a resource that is both highly functional and visually appealing. The goal was to produce a guide suitable for beginners and experienced foodies alike. The book needed to blend the warmth of Tina’s storytelling, and extensive knowledge and passion for cooking into a cohesive and engaging format. Key features to highlight were practical tips, essential processes, QR links to instructional videos, and a comprehensive cross-referencing system. The design aimed for a practical, well-organized, legible, and elegant presentation, ensuring the book quickly became a trusted favourite for readers.”
Judges’ comments The contemporary typography and lovely colours give this cookbook a modern appeal. The design system is clean, offering a sense of movement and making the recipes feel straightforward and practical. Earthy tones, particularly the swathes of pumpkin hues, combined with bold minimal typography, create an aesthetic that commands attention. The expert curation results in a Delia-Smith-esque publication that feels robust and encyclopaedic. The almost retro photography enhances the sense of being guided by a wise cooking expert through classic dishes.
