Judges’ comments: “Strong angular typographic cover, and an elegant example of text book design. Small quibble in that the maps and tables don’t carry over the typographic conventions of the rest of the book- although it appears the same typeface was used for maps/diagrams only – which doesn’t partner that well with rest of the typographic palette.”
“Great cover, strong and has impact. A sleek example of a textbook which can often be dry and dense. Good presentation of so much information.”
“Great title lock-up with what looks like a bespoke font however, the title is disconnected from a plain, forced subtitle. Text weight & scale hierarchy could have been more pronounced.”
“The dynamic typographic stacking and breaking of the title on the cover promise much from what might be a fairly dry text book. And wow! This is a real design challenge to keep the life force alive throughout. There are many demands, maps, tables, glossary terms to weight up, which the designer does a good service to.”
