Judges’ Comments The cover art by Dick Frizzell is iconically New Zealand and was a smart choice for this cookbook. The use of hand-drawn type on the contents and conversion pages is similarly successful. Having the contributing chefs commentaries set in their own handwriting is a nice touch, which brings more of a sense of the individual personalities to the book. This combined with the image choices and gridding of images to show stages of process, makes the book seem more about humanising celebrity chefs and enjoyment of the process of cooking rather than the final product, which is refreshing. Overall The Great New Zealand Cookbook is well set out and navigable.
